Killing Machine Apparel Company has just completed a total revamp of their operation, and relaunched the brand for 2006. A full-line of both men’s and women’s apparel is currently available online at www.killingmachine.com
The Chicago-based apparel company is now under the ownership and direction of acclaimed paintball photographer Christopher Dilts and another partner. Dilts was a co-founder of the company, and the main designer behind all the company’s clothes between 1999-2005. He will remain the chief designer as well as co-owner.
Killing Machine is also making their line more widely available to retailers, and for the first time will have a dedicate store sales representative. The company is presenting stores a unique return program unheard of for paintball, and more in line with what skate and surf apparel companies offer.
Under the program, stores will have the ability to return sizes and designs that aren’t selling after 120 days, and exchange them for new styles or more popular sizes.
“We want [retailers] to sell our stuff, and we want it to sell for them,” said Dilts. “If there’s something that [the retailer] has got in stock that’s not selling well, we’ll swap it out with better moving sizes or new designs. We want to have a real relationship with our retailers, because they’re choosing to sell our stuff, and I want it to work out for them. “
Killing Machine strives to be different from other apparel companies by placing a huge emphasis on the design component, making it more than simply ink on cotton. “For me design has always been really emotional. I’m trying to make a feeling, visually, which probably stems from me being a photographer first and foremost,” said Dilts.
Killing Machine also has plans in the works to a guest designer series of shirts later this summer, with works by Chris Spann [owner/designer from Sire Paintball] as well as some of the more artistically inclined professional paintball players.
“Part of the “guest designer” thing is that there are really awesome talents out there and I’m all about helping them make stuff,” said Dilts. “I’ve always chaffed at this whole market driven competitiveness. Real creative people aren’t selfish like that. They’re excited about their ideas just as much as their excited about their friend's ideas.”
The company also is planning a relaunch party, tentatively scheduled to coincide with the Chicago stop of the PSP.
