Introduction

The sport of paintball has evolved dramatically in recent years, with enthusiasts typically playing both indoors and outside. As the paintball capsules can hit with substantial force, the need for protection, especially for the head, face and eyes, is an absolute must.

Paintball Mask Situation

Previously, equipment developed for motocross was drafted into this sport, offering face protection primarily of the „shield“ type. But with paintball's evolution, the need for better protection, better performance and increased comfort while playing have become paramount. Primarily, participants want gear that looks cool, intimidating, and can be „personalized“ to reflect their individuality and passion for the sport. Some of the problems with existing masks on the market: Materials Typically, paintball masks are not only uncomfortable and awkward for prescription eyeglass or contact wearers, but also hot, heavy and made from non-breathable materials. The latter leads to:

• fogging of the mask and lack of clear sight while playing
• frequent removal of the mask to clear fog, increasing risk of injury

Structure

Generally, paintball masks are of single-piece construction in the „shield“ design (a single piece of plastic that curves across the face) and are:

• rigid and not flexible
• typically held in place with a simple „goggle type“ headstrap
• not secure (mask slippage) during strenuous play
• „fixed“ or non-adjustable
• not customizable for vision or varying day/night light conditions
• not adaptable to changing environmental or weather conditions

Style

As with all out-there sports, there is a great desire for participants to „look the part“. Previous masks were:

• not designed to be „customized“ to meet personal taste
• not equipped with any appearance altering variables
• just not cool!

The adjustable strapping system, attaching at both the top and bottomof the head-hugging sides, holds the mask more securely in place.

Revision's „Eyewear style“ EyeCoverage and Protection

The „eyepiece“ (unlike a single shield) is removable from the skeleton itself. As a result, a wide variety of lenses can be made available for insertion, addressing change in light conditions ranging from intense sunlight, to overcast, to flat light, to night light. Additionally, the eyepiece can be fitted with powered lenses – perfect for eyeglass wearers.
