1) How long has Joy Division been a Professional Team?
Joy's first event as a pro team was campaign cup 98. We actually came in 2nd. We were tied with the winners and we had beaten them in the head to head. But the tiebreaker was least penalty points and we had a -10 from the preliminaryround for a hot gun! I'm still pissed about that one.
2) How did the team form and how much of the roster is still the same? Please list your current roster for the 2004 season.
We were a bunch of old friends that tried it back in 1992. We were running around with splatmasters and thought it was the greatest thing ever.
Then someone got a Tippmann pump gun and we thought that it was a bit over the edge! But from the original team we can still list me and Gusten. Max andAlex came in 1 year later.
Joy have gone thru a drastic change for the last year. We formed a Kids team last year and they have become good very, very fast. It was pretty evident when they took second place in Campaign cup last year in Amateur A. The kids have slowly but consistently pushed out older players from the pro team and in Miami I fielded 4 Joy Kids players in the starting 7-man squad. They lost 1 game the entire event.
So the team this year will be:
Magued Idris
Max Lundqvist ( plays Huntington )
Gusten
Eken ( plays Huntington )
Sebban ( plays Huntington )
Mellis ( plays Huntington )
Alis ( plays Huntington )
Ecke ( plays Huntington )
Brian ( plays Huntington )
Karl Scandal ( hes in jail now! )
TV 4
David
Flizan
Razmus ( 16 years old, will play Huntington beach )
Robin ( plays Huntington )
Johan
Dan
3) You recently brought back Swedish-sensation Max Lundqvist… what does this mean to the team and how do you feel about this reunion?
Max is as he was with me when we formed the team and the teams „soul“ very important for Joy. He has never actually left Joy, he has played with us as much as he could in the past 3 years. But rules and politics made it harder for him to play with Joy and therefore he had to leave NXL and come back home. Now Alex is restricted from playing with us, and he's not happy….
As for having Max on the field. That will take Joy up another level and I can safely say that I will be able to field a team that will be awesome.
4) Who are your sponsors for 2004 and in what way?
Our main sponsor is WDP. They are the ones that drive this team forward. This year they have also made a custom team marker the Joy Angel that will give us such firepower that anyone meeting us will have to struggle just to make it to their preliminary bunkers. It's sick!
Other sponsors are Dye that give us the best goggles Invision and barrels and other stuff that make us look better.
Also as we now have the fastest gun in the world we needed the fastest hopper, so Halo from Odyssey is also a sponsor
Then we have this super cool new brand in paintball harnesses and bags, NXe. They look good and work perfectly, so Joy Division!
Reball is the new revolution in this sport. A reusable rubber ball that fly straight at 300fps. This product has made it possible for us to practice as much as we can without using pballs!
Now motivation is the only limit.
We also use the Snapbox, a portable shooting range that can be put up anywhere. Players can practice snapshooting and accuracy in their garage or home.
We are shooting Tomahawk paintballs in Xball, we won the nations cup with thatball so we really like it.
5) What is your role with the team Magued?
To be able to take a spot on Joy you have to practice at least 2 times/week. If you can't you won't play! Now I have a life and can't run around and play paintball 2 times /week so I guess my playing days are over. With the increased training and everything else around the team taking more and more time this is something very positive. Also in EXL the teams need me as a coach so I'm happy with my new 100% pimp role. Me and Gusten and the old gard took theteam to where they are today, now our new young superstars will take it higher.
6) Has being a tournament promoter been positive or negative for your team in the past?
It's been a great experience but it has cost a lot of money. In any case Joy Masters have been everything we wanted it to be with the reffing, good venues and x-rated parties.
Hopefully Joy Masters will evolve even more in the future. For the team it has been great for promotion and setting standards on reffing for the entire paintball community. And the smart promoters have realized that as the NPPLdid last year using Joy Players as reffs.
7) Where will Joy Division be playing this year?
Joy will play as much NPPL as we possibly can, hopefully all of them and EXLthe European Xball league.
8) Where does the team practice most of the time?
At the Swedish paintball academy JOY CENTER STOCKHOLM and at Paintball gården Skövde.
2 huge reasons why Sweden is so over represented in the world of paintball.
9) When Paintball veterans hear „Joy Division“, what do you think comes to their minds?
To hide their girlfriends.
10) What would you like to come to their minds?
To present there girlfriends…
11) What are Joy Division's goals this year?
To win a NPPL event, and by that be the first European team to win major inthe states. We will also win the EXL that I'm sure of.
12) Where can people learn more about the team?
Website is on its way, don't have the address yet. But www.WDP.tv willsurely have a link up.
13) Why has the team decided to play in the NPPL Super 7?
NPPL is awesome! We played 2 events last year and we are still talking about it! VEGAS AND MIAMI, I mean who wouldn't want to play paintball and party at places like that?
We Reffed Huntington last year and it was hard work but still so fun. Also a major point for any European team is that NPPL takes reffing seriously. We can play there knowing that we will be reffed fairly. That had never been the case in the states before.
Then we have Camille and Mandy, they are HOT!
14) Finally, is it true you used to be an “exotic dancer”?
Not really, the story have been some how twisted. When we were in Birmingham a long time ago, WDP had a party and called a „call a stripper“ agency. The girls at the party also wanted to have a male stripper so they order one. In walks OWEN! He actually got hired on the spot as the girls didn't wantto let him go and now he's one of the corner stones of WDP.
