The popular pastime, though, comes with a warning from health and paintball gaming experts. The experts said proper training in the use of all equipment associated with paintball is crucial to injury-free participation. The goggles included in paintball kits are the most important piece of equipment in the sets, one paintball expert said. Ted Marek, of Celebration Station, also said the eye safety goggles included with paintball setups are specially made to withstand the pellet velocity generated by paintball guns.
„Paintballs travel at 275 feet per second,“ he said. „You can't grab the goggles out of your garage. They won't take the impact.“ Statistics showed that thousands of people nationwide suffer serious eye injuries each year because players fail to wear proper safety goggles. The number of injuries continues to climb. „It's definitely going to put your eye out if you get hit without eyeglasses on,“ Marek said. One safety expert told NBC 5 news that novice players are most likely to get hurt while playing paintball because they lack the experience to know how to properly use the safety equipment and the training to play safely.
